FIT LoRaWAN can be used to communicate with low power sensors scattered within Lisbon metropolitan area for either academic purposes or real applications. Recently, it has started being used by ISEL to control the new outdoor lighting system, which consist of 60 LED based luminaries equipped with bidirectional Low Power WAN (LPWAN) communication modules, implemented on the ISEL campus. These new luminaries, together with the LoRa network, allows for a continuous, real time, analyses a regulation of the luminaries according to the day light conditions and, consequently, for energy savings.
